Spotlight: Groupon
A short spotlight this week because this is a relative newcomer to the Portland market: Groupon. Perhaps you’ve seen the Google Ad and clicked on it to sign up…we recommend that you do it!
A brief history: Groupon started up about a year ago in Chicago and in that span it has expanded to 19 cities. The whole concept is simple: every day Groupon will have a new deal available to purchase by midnight. Oftentimes the savings are around 50% or more and the merchants include restaurants, services, attractions and more. It’s all about group buying power—if enough people purchase that deal of the day, then everyone reaps the reward.
Groupon Portland officially launched this past Monday, October 12th. They’ve already featured The Original: A Dinerant restaurant in downtown Portland where you get $20 worth of dining for just $10. Tuesday’s deal offered up $50 for a 30-minute massage, facial, and foot bath at the Dragontree Holistic Day Spa (retail value of $118, a 68% savings). And Wednesday’s deal was $7 for 3 Games of bowling & shoe rental at Sunset Lanes (retail value of $17, a 59% savings). And for Thursday? It’s up to you to take a look (this where you take some action and check it out!). For a complete FAQ on how Groupon works, click here. Be careful though—these deals pack a value-punch and saving this much money might get addictive (but it’s great for the economy, right?!). Thanks for reading and enjoy the weekend.
I signed up for Groupon through Facebook, and I love it! Today’s deal is from one of my favorite places in Portland and – yes, totally serious – pretty much the whole world…
