Here are our favorite listings for free and cheap things to do in the month of October 2013. Also, please check our main web site for updated listings for birthday freebies. All month: Shari’s restaurants are offering any classic pie for just $7.99 during the month of October, choose from over a dozen flavors.
All month: Area Halloween haunts and screams can be had for half-price, just check out the daily deal sites such as Groupon, LivingSocial and GetMyPerks for discount admission offers.
October 7th – 12th: Design Week Portland features 80 events and over 100 open houses.

– Hillsboro First Tuesday opening exhibits, 6:00pm – 8:00pm in downtown Hillsboro, free. Check it out at the Glenn & Viola Walters Cultural Arts Center and the Sequoia Gallery + Studios.

Wednesday, 10/2:
– Wondrous Wednesday at the World Forestry Center offers $3 admission.
– Panda Express is giving away a free single serving of their new Honey Sesame Chicken Breast, print out or show the coupon on your mobile device.
– Portland REI presents a free class “International & Adventure Travel Basics,” 6:30pm.

29th Annual Sports & Fitness Expo, 11:00am – 8:00pm at the downtown Portland Hilton, free (you don’t have to be a registered marathon participant to attend).

Trail Blazers annual Wells Fargo Fan Fest, 6:00pm at the Moda Center. Free tickets and family passes are currently available at all of Wells Fargo’s 129 bank branches in Oregon and southwest Washington. Fans will also be admitted by showing a Wells Fargo ATM or credit card at any entrance.

Thursday, 10/10:
– Submission from Madeline – Concordia University hosts an evening talk with Dr. Juliette LaMontagnea, a former Senior TED Fellow and founder of Project Breaker. Monday, 10/28:
History Pub Monday at McMenamins Kennedy School features “The Chemawa Indian School of Salem, Oregon: Assimilation to Affirmation, 1880s to 2010s,” 7:00pm. Free for all ages.

Thursday 10/31:
– Keep an eye out for Halloween discounts such as Chipotle burritos for $2, fifty-cent corn dogs at Sonic Burger, free Krispy Kreme donuts and Papa Murphy’s Jack-O-Lantern pizzas.
Halloween at McMenamins Kennedy School, 4:30pm until late, free for all ages.
