It has been a long hiatus between posts but we are finally back for 2015. Back in February 2014 we somehow managed to bungle the monthly update and it seemed like all was lost as our homepage kept redirecting to a post from long long ago. We could not figure out how to amend the mistake and for months and months it just sat — until finally we contacted our web host and they righted the ship almost immediately. So, we have found our way back and have made a number of updates to our pages, most notably with our Calendar, where you’ll find things to do on the cheap for almost every day of the week.
We’d like to take this time to reiterate some really great resources that we have used extensively in the past to save money and hope that you will find them just as helpful (some below are affiliate links):
- Portland Chinook Book – just $20, or call Costco and see if they still have copies for $12.49
– Portland Entertainment Book – costs $35 retail, but they have frequent sales– Daily Deal Sites — Groupon, Living Social, Get My Perks and the Portland Mercury MercPerks
– Frugal Living NW – we visit this web site every day for the latest deals and steals for grocery bargains and couponing for stores here in the Portland area
– PDX Pipeline – this offers up a massive list of things to do in Portland all month long – while some events cost money, they frequently have giveaways for free tickets
– Meetup Portland – we are including this web site because you can find so many opportunities to do free and low-cost things with new friends — from hiking and board game nights to watching the Blazers basketball game and meeting up for free movie screenings — this is the place to discover a new activity, or start up your own group!
– County Libraries — not just a place for books and DVD’s, but many also now feature Blurays, ebook devices, board games, workshops, classes, performances, cultural passes and much more. Click here for Clackamas, Multnomah, Washington and Clark counties.
– Craigslist – buy, sell, get things for free, find classes, find jobs, find housing, learn about community events — so much to find
In addition to the above resources, you and plenty on our main website Portlandonthecheap.com, and we have also completely updated all the information for January 2015. Our recent finds include a free $25 gift certificate on your birthday to Fogo De Chao and new additions to our cheap movie theaters page. We’ve also included new ways to save via Airbnb, Uber and Getaround. For more a fascinating look at the sharing economy, take a look at this article from Willamette Week’s August 27th, 2014 issue “In the Companies Of Strangers.”
We start off the new 2015 year fresh and looking forward to bringing you articles, events and ideas on saving money. And if you are an individual or an organization with something to add (event, class, update to our web site, etc.), please let us know as we welcome submissions. Email them here.
