Stuff to do Monday August 3rd – Thursday, August 7th

Here are some cheap things to do for this first week of August:

- Monday, August 3rd is the OMSI Science Pub @ McMenamins Bagdad Theater, 7:00pm start time. Topic: “Outbreak Investigation: Uncovering the Source, Spread and Severity of SARS.” $2.00 suggested cover.

- Tuesday, August 4th: Get two free tacos at Jack in the Box with this coupon. No strings attached, valid from morning til’ midnight. Print the coupon and present when ordering.

- Tuesday is also National Night Out, the annual crrime prevention event designed to strengthen neighborhoods. In Portland, there are neighborhood gatherings happening all over with concerts, potlucks, BBQs, performances, ice cream socials and much more. Click here for a pdf listing of Portland area parties. Other areas include Beaverton, Tigard, and Gresham.

- Wednesday, August 5th is day #4 for the Washington Park Summer Festival, and features Tahoe Jackson’s Consortium (A Soulful Love Letter to Portland). Music starts at 6:00pm at the park’s amphitheater. Free admission, concerts run August 2nd – 15th.

- Thursday, August 6th is Portland’s First Thursday Art Gallery Walk, happening all over downtown Portland, the Pearl and Old Town. The web site Art of Geography has a great downloadable map available here. Festivities start around 5:30pm, but go a little earlier and check out the new Street of Dreams. A non-peak (from 12:00pm – 4:00pm) adult ticket can be had for $13, plus you’ll also receive a ‘Pearl Pass’ that offers discounts and promotions to Pearl district merchants.

Portland summer street fairs and neighborhood festivals

    Thursday, July 9th – Saturday, July 11th: McMinnville’s 49th annual Turkey Rama celebration with carnival rides, live music and entertainment, the world’s largest turkey barbecue and much more.

    Saturday, July 11th and Sunday, July 12th: Sandy Mountain Festival with over 150 artisans, food booths and music.

    Saturday, July 18th: Troutdale Summerfest features a community parade, artists, crafts, food, entertainment and more.

    Saturday, July 25th: Division Clinton Street Fair with a neighborhood parade, community and craft booths, music, children’s events, food and much more for one day only.

    Saturday, August 1st: Iranian Festival with music, dance, children’s activities, book fair and more.

    Tuesday, August 4th: National Night Out, focusing on prevention of crime and drug activity–check your neighborhood association or see the web site for more information.

    Friday, August 7th – Sunday, August 9th: 12th annual Elephant Garlic Festival in North Plains, featuring music, arts and crafts and of course, garlic!

    Saturday, August 15th: Multnomah Days at Multnomah Village with a mini parade, art, food, crafts and merchandise.

    Sunday, August 16th: India Festival at Pioneer Courthouse Square, highlighting the tastes, sounds and sights of India.

    Sunday, August 16th: Hawthorne Street Fair, 11:00am – 5:00pm along streets 30th – 50th. Features music stages, children’s activities, special store sales and a free 1:00pm showing of the classic flick “Labyrinth” at the Bagdad Theater!

    Thursday, August 27th – Saturday, August 29th: Festa Italiana at Pioneer Courthouse Square, celebrating Italian-American culture in America with music, a bocce tournament, opera, movie and food.

    Saturday, September 5th – Monday, September 7th: Labor Day weekend’s Art in the Pearl with food, music, children’s activities and art!

    Saturday, September 12th: Belmont Street Fair, features music, vendors, entertainment, sidewalk sales and a free trolley.

    Saturday, September 12th & Sunday, September 13th: West Linn Arts Festival with music, food, children’s activities, a silent auction, art exhibits and more.

    Saturday, September 26th: Fun on Foster street fair between 50th and 92nd streets with art vendors, food, entertainment and more.

    Saturday, September 26th & Sunday, September 27th: 14th annual Polish Festival featuring food, dance and music.
