- OMSI Science Pub: The Cheese Stands Alone, The Science Behind Oregon’s Acclaimed Artisan Cheeses. 7:00pm at McMenamins Bagdad Theater. $3 suggested donation, open to ages 21+, or minor with adult.
Tuesday, June 8th:
- Second Tuesday at the Oregon Zoo: $2 admission for all. Ride the MAX and show proof of fare and get an additional $1.50 off your ticket.
- World Oceans Day, a free public event with Bamboo sushi, ocean solutions panel, faffle, Voodoo donuts, ocean movie and more. 6:00pm at the Billy Frank Jr. Conference Center in the Ecotrust Building, 721 N.W. 9th Avenue
- Join Hugh Rowland, star of History Channel’s “Ice Road Truckers,” for his book reading of “On Thin Ice: Breakdowns, Whiteouts, and Survival on the World’s Deadliest Roads,” 7:00pm at Powell’s Books at Cedar Crossing. Free.
Wednesday, June 9th:
- Volunteers of Portland Center for the Performing Arts Noontime Showcase presents: Zimba! 12:00pm at PCPA in downtown Portland. Listen to marimbas and the sounds Southern Africa. Free admission.
- Rose Festival Junior Parade, 1:00pm along Sandy Boulevard near 52nd in the Hollywood District. Marching bands, Fred Bear, Nesquik Bunny, bike floats and more, free. Let’s go sunshine!
- “The Boys of Little Mexico” book reading from author Steve Wilson, 7:30pm at Powell’s City of Books. The book chronicles the Woodburn High School soccer team as it chases an elusive state championship. Free.
Thursday, June 10th:
- Country Natural Beef & Partners present “Country Food Fair,” at downtown Portland’s new Director Park, 5:00pm – 9:00pm. The family-focused fair will feature cowboy activities including cowboy poetry, a story-telling circle, roping tricks and lessons, a stick horse rodeo for children, a barn dance and more. For a nominal fee, participants can also buy beef-related dishes from local vendors, all to benefit the Oregon Food Bank.
- Portland’s annual Pedalpalooza kicks off two weeks of bike related fun with a 7:00pm kick off ride at SE Portland’s Laurelhurst Park. Free.
- Salmon in the Trees: A photographic journey through Alaska’s Tongass rain forest,” book reading and signing with nature photographer Amy Gulick. 7:00pm at the Billy Frank Jr. Conference Center inside the Ecotrust Building, free event for the public.
