Go vegetarian to save money.” Personally, we love our burgers and BBQ ribs too much to give up meat entirely, but this article sure does give us pause to consider having a couple meat-free days during the week! Not only is it easier on the wallet, but over the long term the positive health benefits are hard to deny.


Monday, February 1st:

- Music Millennium presents Community day with free refreshments, special one-day deals, live music and more. The 7:00pm Songwriters Circle features Lisa Mann, Steve Hefter and Jarad Miles.

- Free Denny’s burger and fries for the first 500,000 people who sign up for the new Denny’s Rewards program online here. The free burger and fries will be available for redemption March 1st through March 7th, 2010. Sign up now until February 14th, or until 500,000 have signed up. And you don’t need to be a Rewards program member to take advantage of a free Grand Slam breakfast next week on Tuesday, February 9th!

Tuesday, February 2nd:
- LOST final season premiere at 9:00pm, ABC. Get caught up with a replay of last season’s cliff hanger finale at 8:00pm. The Bagdad will show both on their big screen with doors opening at 7:30pm. Free, 21 and over only.

Wednesday, February 3rd:
- World Forestry Center’s Wondrous Wednesday offers $2.00 admission all day to the Discovery Museum. 10:00am – 5:00pm.

- Film Screening: “Papers” at Lewis and Clark College Templeton Campus Center, Council Chamber. 7:00pm, which will be followed by a panel discussion with film creators, participants, and other experts. Free.

Thursday, February 4th:
- Portland First Thursday monthly art gallery walk in downtown Portland, Old Town and the Pearl District. 5:00pm – 8:00pm, free.

- OSU Food Innovation Center Yogurt Taste Test, $30 compensation if selected:

The Sensory and Consumer Group at the Oregon State University Food Innovation Center is looking for participants for a yogurt taste test to take place on Wednesday, Sept. 9th. The taste test is about 30 minutes and the compensation is $30. Test times run from 10am to 5pm. If you are interested, please click on the link below to submit a questionnaire. If you are selected to participate, we will contact you via email by Thursday, Sept. 3rd, and then give you a confirmation email the day before the test.

We are looking very specifically at your yogurt usage habits. Please be honest.
For those who are new to the email list, please note that we cannot contact everyone who sent in a questionnaire. You will not hear back from us for each test as each consumer will not be selected every time. We only contact those who were selected to participate and will be sending out those confirmation emails by Sept. 3rd.

Photo ID will be required to participate in this test.

The Food Innovation Center is located in the River District/Pearl District area with free parking, close to the Chinatown MAX stop or the 10th Ave at Marshall Streetcar stop. We are about one quarter mile north of the Broadway bridge on Naito parkway (Front Ave.).

We have a 24 hour cancellation policy. If you have been confirmed for a space, but cannot make it for some reason and do not call to cancel at least 24 hours in advance, we will remove you from our email list. We work hard to get ready for these tests and need to count on our participants to show up. Thank you for your understanding.

December update: Cyber Monday, OMSI After Dark, 1st Tuesday & Thursday

- Cyber Monday – the big online shopping day for free shipping and great deals.  Many online and brick & mortar retailers are participating.  Here’s an article from CNN about Cyber Monday; click here for the official site and list of deals.

- First Tuesday, December 2nd, downtown Hillsboro from 6:00pm – 8:00pm.  Downtown retail shops and restaurants host art displays and artisans showing and demonstrating their work.
Each month has 20 (or more) varying participating artists and businesses – brightly colored lanterns are hung in front of those participating to help guide you. Flyers can be picked up at any participating business during the artwalk.  Complimentary beverages and hors d’ouvres are served by most merchants. Come join us for a fun evening!

- OMSI After Dark, Wednesday 12/03, 6:00pm – 10:00pm.  Adults only, $10 each.
