- The Friends of the Hillsboro Library continues their Spring Used Book Sale this week until Sunday, May 9th. Look for a special 50-cents off coupon near the information desk that you may use once each day.

Tuesday, May 4th:

- Ben and Jerry’s Ice Cream Bonnaroo Flavor Release Party with giveaways, music and free samples. Stop by your participating shop between 5:00pm – 7:00pm.

- Hillsboro First Tuesday with Walters Cultural Arts Center opening reception at 6:00pm. Free.

- Free public lecture “Eating Well As A Family,” 6:00pm at Tuality Health Education Center in Hillsboro. Free.

- Book reading of “The Roadmap to 100,” 7:30pm 7:00pm at Powell’s Books at Cedar Hills Crossing. Free. Wednesday, May 5th:

- Cinco de Mayo Festival at Waterfront Park with special activities and musical performances all day 11:00am – 11:00pm. Admission is just $6 per adult.

- 4th Annual Grandparents Raising Grandchildren Retreat, 9:00am – 2:30pm. Free lunch and door prizes, pre-registration is required by calling Loriann McNeill at (503) 988-3646 to reserve your space.

- World Forestry Center Wondrous Wednesday offers $2 admission for all to the Discovery Museum. Ride the wet-free rapids, try your smoke-jumping skills and discover interesting things about forests all over the world.

- Community Cinema Independent Lens series presents “Horse Boy” at the Turnbull Portland Center. Free screening, starts at 6:00pm.

Thursday, May 6th:

- PCC Brown Bag Lunch and Learn Series at 12:00pm at the Multnomah County Central library. Free lecture “Managing Conflict: Tips, Tricks, Traps, Tools.”

- Portland First Thursday takes place downtown, the Pearl District and Old Town.

Monday, April 5th:
- OMSI Science Pub at McMenamins Bagdad Theater, 7:00pm. Tonight’s topic is “Seeing Time: Geologic Clues to Our Ancient Earth.” $2 suggested cover charge, ages 21 and over only, please.

Tuesday, April 6th:
- Hillsboro First Tuesday Art Walk and the 6th annual HYAC Youth Art Exhibition beginning with a 6:00pm reception,refreshments and house concert at the Glenn and Viola Walters Cultural Arts Center. Free.

- Paul Verhoeven reads from ‘Jesus of Nazareth‘ at Powell’s City of Books, 7:30pm. Free.

Wednesday, April 7th:
- World Forestry Center Wondrous Wednesday, admission is just $2 per person all day to the Discovery Museum.

- User submission: a free Spring Yard Party for knitters at Ecotrust downtown. There will be a panel discussion with a few local designers, a raffle, lots of yarn to touch, and the first 200 knitters through the door will get a coupon for 10% off their next yarn purchase. Event runs from 7:00pm – 9:00pm.

- Estate Planning class at Shute Park Aquatic & Recreation Center (SHARC) in Hillsboro. Speaker Richard B. Schneider, Attorney at Law, will have your questions answered. Make sure your estate goes to the people you love. 6:30pm – 8:00pm. Free, though pre-registration is requested.

Thursday, April 8th:-
- PCC Brown Bag and Lunch series, 12:00pm at Multnomah County’s Central Library. Today’s presentation is “Using Humor in the Workplace.” Free.

- Author David D. Levine visits Powell’s Technical Books at 7:00pm to share his experiences at the Mars Desert Research Station in Utah. Free.

- Opening day for the Portland Beavers baseball team at 7:00pm, PGE Park with magnet schedule giveaway for the first 2,000 fans. Next year the Beavers will likely play in Tucson, AZ, so go out and lend your support for this 2010 season!

Go vegetarian to save money.” Personally, we love our burgers and BBQ ribs too much to give up meat entirely, but this article sure does give us pause to consider having a couple meat-free days during the week! Not only is it easier on the wallet, but over the long term the positive health benefits are hard to deny.


Monday, February 1st:

- Music Millennium presents Community day with free refreshments, special one-day deals, live music and more. The 7:00pm Songwriters Circle features Lisa Mann, Steve Hefter and Jarad Miles.

- Free Denny’s burger and fries for the first 500,000 people who sign up for the new Denny’s Rewards program online here.
